AdBlue
SO WHAT’S ADBLUE AND WHY DO I NEED IT
So What’s AdBlue?
AdBlue® is fluid used as a NOx reduction agent for diesel engines equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology.
AdBlue® convert harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the diesel exhaust into harmless nitrogen and water, reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides by up to 80%.
AdBlue® is increasingly used for commercial vehicles, in order to meet increasingly tightened European emissions standards for exhaust emissions of new vehicles sold in EU (and EEA) member states.
AdBlue® is a registered trademark of the Verband der Automonilindustrie e.V (VDA).
Why do I need it?
Consumer demand for easy AdBlue® top-up solutions has just started!
Approx 6 million new diesel cars are registered in Europe each year.
Approx 20 litres of AdBlue® is used per car in a year.
The technical development goes into direction of much smaller AdBlue® tanks in passenger cars, which means that the driver has to refill more often.
Engine re-start is prevented if AdBlue® tank is empty.
- If driver runs out of AdBlue®, the need for refill is urgent!
- Tank capacity is approximately 20 litres, consumption around 1.5l per 700 miles.
- Total volume 2020, around 1 billion litres.
