“Authorisation” means any instruction or approval given by the customer, whether verbally, in writing or electronically, including but not limited to telephone conversations, voicemail, email, SMS, WhatsApp, online bookings or any other agreed method of communication.

Acceptance of these Terms
By requesting an estimate or quotation, booking an appointment, authorising work, purchasing goods or services, or leaving a vehicle in the care of Five Star Autocentre, you acknowledge and agree that these Terms & Conditions shall apply to all work undertaken by us.
Where work is authorised verbally, electronically or by any other method of communication, such authorisation shall have the same contractual effect as written acceptance.
These Terms & Conditions are available in our reception area and on our website. Customers are encouraged to read them before authorising work and may ask a member of our team if they require clarification on any provision. If you have any questions regarding these Terms & Conditions, please ask a member of our team before work commences.
Nothing contained within these Terms & Conditions shall affect or exclude any statutory rights available to consumers under applicable UK law.
1. Estimates & Quotations
- All quotations and estimates are prepared using the information available at the time they are issued.
- Estimates are based upon the visible condition of the vehicle and do not include faults or defects that cannot reasonably be identified until dismantling, diagnosis or testing has commenced.
- During servicing, repairs or diagnosis additional faults may become apparent which could not reasonably have been identified beforehand.
- No additional chargeable work will normally be undertaken without your authorisation unless immediate action is reasonably necessary to prevent further damage to the vehicle or remove an immediate safety risk.
- Estimated completion dates are provided in good faith but are estimates only and do not form part of any contractual guarantee.
2. Customer Authorisation
- Authorisation for work may be provided:
- In person
- By telephone
- By email
- By SMS
- By WhatsApp
- Via our website
- Via any other agreed electronic communication.
- By providing authorisation, you confirm that you have the authority to instruct work on the vehicle.
- Telephone calls, emails, text messages and other electronic communications may be relied upon by Five Star Autocentre as evidence of customer instructions and authorisation.
3. Deposits
- Five Star Autocentre reserves the right to request a deposit before ordering parts or commencing work.
- A deposit of up to 50% of the estimated repair value may be required where:
- special order parts are required;
- high-value components are being supplied;
- extensive repairs have been authorised;
- parts are non-returnable;
- significant workshop time has been reserved.
- Deposits paid towards special order parts or work already commenced may be non-refundable where costs have already been incurred.
4. Appointment Cancellations & Non-Attendance
- Our workshop operates strictly by appointment, with technician time and workshop capacity allocated specifically for your vehicle.
- If you are unable to attend your appointment, we kindly request that you provide as much notice as possible.
- Five Star Autocentre reserves the right to request a deposit when rebooking customers who repeatedly cancel appointments at short notice or fail to attend without prior notice.
- Where an appointment is cancelled at very short notice, the customer fails to attend, or arrives so late that the allocated work cannot reasonably be completed, Five Star Autocentre reserves the right to make a reasonable cancellation charge to reflect costs already incurred and workshop time that could not reasonably be reallocated.
- Diagnostic appointments, timing belt replacements, air conditioning work and other appointments requiring significant technician time may require a deposit. Failure to attend without reasonable notice may result in that deposit being retained.
5. Diagnostic Work
- Diagnostic work is an investigative process intended to identify the likely cause of reported faults based upon the symptoms present at the time of inspection.
- Some faults are intermittent, multiple or only occur under certain operating conditions and may not be identifiable during the first inspection.
- A diagnostic charge covers technician time, specialist equipment, software subscriptions and technical expertise regardless of whether the fault is ultimately repaired by Five Star Autocentre.
- Diagnosis does not guarantee that every fault affecting the vehicle will be identified during the initial inspection. Repairs are undertaken based upon the information, symptoms and test results available at the time. Rectifying one fault does not guarantee that other unrelated, hidden or intermittent faults will not subsequently become apparent.
6. Additional Repairs
- Where additional repairs are identified during servicing, dismantling or diagnosis, no additional chargeable work will normally be undertaken without your authorisation unless immediate action is reasonably necessary to prevent further damage to the vehicle or remove an immediate safety risk.
- Where immediate action is required to prevent further damage or remove an immediate safety risk and we are unable to contact you despite reasonable attempts, Five Star Autocentre reserves the right to undertake only the minimum work necessary to protect the vehicle or ensure safety.
7. Special Order Parts
- Parts ordered specifically for your vehicle, including VIN-specific components, programmed electronic modules, manufacturer special orders and certain electrical components, cannot normally be cancelled or returned.
- Deposits paid towards these items may therefore be non-refundable once the order has been placed.
- Any supplier cancellation charges incurred by Five Star Autocentre may be passed on to the customer where legally permissible.
8. Parts Supplied
- Five Star Autocentre operates a strict policy of supplying all replacement parts fitted to customer vehicles.
This enables us to maintain quality standards, ensure correct compatibility and provide warranty support.
Accordingly: - We do not fit customer-supplied parts.
- We do not fit second-hand, salvaged or used mechanical components.
- We do not fit part-worn or second-hand tyres.
- We reserve the right to refuse installation of any component we consider unsuitable, unsafe or of questionable quality.
- All replacement parts supplied remain the property of Five Star Autocentre until payment has been received in full.
- Unless otherwise agreed in writing, Five Star Autocentre may supply genuine manufacturer parts, Original Equipment (OE) parts or high-quality aftermarket components that we consider suitable for the repair being undertaken.
9. Warranty
- Unless otherwise stated in writing:
- Our workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
- Replacement parts remain subject to the manufacturer’s own warranty terms.
- Our warranty does not apply where:
- recommended repairs have been declined;
- the vehicle has continued to be driven after developing a fault;
- another repairer has dismantled, modified or repaired the affected area before we have had the opportunity to inspect it;
- misuse, neglect, accident or modification has occurred;
- manufacturer maintenance schedules have not been followed.
- Five Star Autocentre must be given a reasonable opportunity to inspect and rectify any proven workmanship issue before repairs are undertaken elsewhere.
- Whilst Five Star Autocentre may provide courtesy reminders regarding future servicing, MOT testing or maintenance, it remains the customer’s responsibility to ensure that their vehicle is serviced and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended schedules.
10. Customer Responsibilities
Customers are responsible for:
- Providing accurate contact details.
- Advising us of any known faults or warning lights before work commences.
- Removing valuables and personal belongings from the vehicle.
- Ensuring sufficient fuel is present where road testing may be required.
- Providing locking wheel nut keys, security codes and all relevant vehicle keys where necessary.
- Remaining reasonably available should additional authorisation be required.
- Collecting their vehicle promptly once notified that repairs have been completed.
Due to the limited parking available at Five Star Autocentre, customers are expected to collect their vehicle on the same working day wherever reasonably practicable.
Where same-day collection is not possible, customers should contact us as soon as possible to make alternative arrangements.
Vehicles left without prior agreement may become subject to storage charges in accordance with these Terms & Conditions.
11. Vehicle Collection & Storage
- Once a customer has been notified that their vehicle is ready for collection, the vehicle should be collected within 24 hours unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed with Five Star Autocentre.
- As Five Star Autocentre operates with limited customer parking and workshop space, customers are expected to collect their vehicle on the same working day wherever reasonably practicable.
- If same-day collection is not possible, customers should contact us as soon as possible so that alternative arrangements can be agreed.
- Where a vehicle remains on our premises for more than 24 hours after notification that it is ready for collection, without prior agreement, a storage charge of £30 per day (including VAT, where applicable) may be applied for each day or part day that the vehicle remains on our premises.
- Where a vehicle is the subject of a dispute, complaint or unpaid invoice, storage charges may continue to accrue where the vehicle is available for collection but remains on our premises at the customer’s request or because the customer has failed or refused to collect it, subject always to applicable law.
- Five Star Autocentre reserves the right to move vehicles around its premises where reasonably necessary for operational, security or health and safety purposes.
12. Warranty & Third-Party Authorisations
- Certain repairs require approval from manufacturers, warranty providers, insurers, finance companies, fleet management companies or other third parties before work can commence.
- Five Star Autocentre has no control over the time taken by these organisations to authorise repairs or supply replacement parts.
- Where approval is likely to take more than a short period, customers will normally be asked to collect their vehicle whilst authorisation is awaited and return once approval has been received and any necessary parts have arrived.
- This enables us to maximise workshop productivity, maintain customer parking availability and reduce the risks associated with vehicles remaining on our premises for extended periods awaiting decisions outside our control.
- Five Star Autocentre accepts no responsibility for delays caused by manufacturers, warranty providers, insurers, finance companies, fleet operators or any other third party responsible for authorising repairs or supplying parts.
13. Third-Party Suppliers & External Delays
- Whilst we will always endeavour to complete work within the estimated timescale provided, some repairs depend upon the availability of parts, technical information or approvals supplied by third parties.
- Five Star Autocentre cannot accept responsibility for delays arising from circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to:
- delayed deliveries;
- incorrect deliveries;
- damaged deliveries;
- supplier stock shortages;
- manufacturer back orders;
- warranty approvals;
- insurance approvals;
- fleet management approvals;
- technical support delays;
- courier delays;
- industrial action;
- adverse weather conditions;
- failures within third-party supply chains.
- Estimated completion dates are provided in good faith but do not constitute a contractual guarantee.
- Five Star Autocentre shall not be liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from delays outside our reasonable control, including but not limited to:
- loss of earnings;
- loss of business;
- missed appointments;
- travel expenses;
- vehicle hire charges;
- accommodation costs;
- inconvenience.
14. Tyres Purchased Through Third-Party Retailers
- Where tyres are purchased through an external retailer or booking platform (including, but not limited to, Blackcircles), Five Star Autocentre acts solely as the appointed fitting centre.
- We are not responsible for:
- delayed deliveries;
- incorrect tyre specifications;
- damaged deliveries;
- missing deliveries;
- supplier shortages;
- retailer cancellations;
- incorrect orders placed with the retailer.
- Any concerns relating to the supply of tyres should be addressed directly to the retailer from whom the tyres were purchased.
- Five Star Autocentre cannot accept liability for delays, inconvenience or losses arising from failures within the retailer’s supply chain.
15A. Road Testing
- Your vehicle may be road tested before, during and after repairs where reasonably necessary to:
- diagnose reported faults;
- verify repairs;
- confirm vehicle safety;
- complete quality control procedures.
- Road testing may include local roads, dual carriageways and motorways where appropriate.
- Vehicle mileage may increase during diagnosis, testing and quality control procedures.
- Customers should ensure sufficient fuel is available where road testing may be necessary.
- Five Star Autocentre will take reasonable care of your vehicle whilst it is in our custody.
- Due to the nature of mechanical repairs and normal workshop operations, we cannot guarantee that vehicles will remain entirely free from minor workshop dust, dirt or incidental marks that are reasonably unavoidable during the repair process. Every reasonable effort will be made to protect your vehicle using suitable protective equipment where appropriate.
15B. Specialist Subcontracted Services
- Where appropriate, Five Star Autocentre may engage suitably qualified specialist contractors to carry out certain services on your behalf.
- Such services may include, but are not limited to:
- air conditioning servicing;
- wheel alignment;
- DPF cleaning;
- injector testing;
- cylinder head machining;
- ECU programming;
- ADAS calibration;
- auto electrical repairs;
- alloy wheel refurbishment;
- windscreen replacement;
- other specialist services.
- Five Star Autocentre remains responsible for arranging such work but cannot accept responsibility for delays caused by specialist contractors or suppliers where those delays are outside our reasonable control.
16. MOT Testing
- An MOT certificate confirms only that the vehicle met the legal minimum testing standards at the time of examination.
- An MOT is not a guarantee of the future mechanical condition, reliability or roadworthiness of the vehicle.
- Components may subsequently fail due to normal wear, deterioration or unforeseen mechanical failure.
17. Removed Parts
- Unless specifically requested before completion of the repair, removed parts may be disposed of through our normal recycling or waste disposal procedures.
- Customers wishing to inspect or retain removed parts must notify Five Star Autocentre before work is completed.
- Requested parts should normally be collected within 24 hours of notification.
- Parts not collected within this period may be disposed of without further notice.
- Parts subject to manufacturer warranty returns, exchange programmes, surcharge schemes or supplier inspection requirements cannot be retained by customers.
18. Photography, Video Recording & Telephone Calls
- Five Star Autocentre may photograph or video record vehicles before, during and after repairs for:
- quality assurance;
- diagnostic records;
- warranty claims;
- insurance purposes;
- evidential purposes;
- staff training;
- customer communication.
- Telephone calls to and from Five Star Autocentre may be recorded for:
- quality assurance;
- staff training;
- security;
- evidential purposes;
- dispute resolution.
- Emails, SMS messages, WhatsApp messages and other electronic communications relating to quotations, authorisations and repairs may also be retained as part of the customer’s service history.
- Images, videos, recordings and electronic communications may be retained for a reasonable period in accordance with our internal data retention policies.
- From time to time, Five Star Autocentre may publish photographs or videos of repairs, workshop activities, vehicle faults, completed repairs or educational content for marketing, training or customer information purposes, including publication on our website and social media channels.
- Where reasonably practicable, vehicle registration numbers and any information capable of identifying a customer will be removed, obscured or anonymised unless the customer has given consent or publication is otherwise lawful.
19. Dashcams & Recording Devices
- Customers are responsible for ensuring that any dashcams or recording devices fitted to their vehicle comply with applicable laws.
- Five Star Autocentre reserves the right to temporarily disconnect, reposition or cover recording devices where reasonably necessary to:
- carry out repairs safely;
- protect confidential business information;
- prevent the inadvertent recording of other customers, employees or vehicles.
- Where reasonably practicable, recording devices will be returned to their original position upon completion of the work.
20. Vehicle Condition
- Many vehicles presented for repair are affected by age, corrosion, previous repairs, accident damage or normal wear and tear.
- During dismantling it may become apparent that components are seized, corroded or beyond economical repair.
- In such circumstances additional labour or replacement parts may become necessary.
- Five Star Autocentre cannot accept responsibility where age, corrosion or previous deterioration results in components breaking or requiring replacement during the normal repair process.
- Customers are requested, where reasonably practicable, to remove child seats, roof boxes, bicycle carriers and other accessories that may restrict or delay repairs. Where Five Star Autocentre is required to remove and refit such items, additional labour charges may apply.
21A. Warning Lights & Additional Faults
- Repairing one fault does not necessarily rectify every fault present within a vehicle.
- Additional warning lights or unrelated faults may become apparent during diagnosis or after repairs as further systems are tested.
- Where unrelated faults are identified, Five Star Autocentre will advise the customer and provide recommendations where appropriate.
21B. Electric & Hybrid Vehicles
Five Star Autocentre reserves the right to decline repairs to electric or hybrid vehicles where appropriately qualified personnel, specialist equipment or manufacturer information are not available or where, in our professional opinion, it would be unsafe to proceed.
22. Vehicle Health Checks & Visual Inspections
- Any complimentary or chargeable vehicle health check, safety inspection or visual inspection carried out by Five Star Autocentre is limited to those components that are reasonably visible and accessible at the time of inspection.
- Unless specifically agreed otherwise, vehicle health checks do not involve dismantling components or carrying out intrusive investigations.
- A vehicle health check should not be interpreted as confirmation that every component has been inspected or that the vehicle is free from defects.
- Faults may remain undetected where they are hidden, intermittent, internal or not reasonably identifiable during the inspection.
- Recommendations are based upon the condition of the vehicle at the time of inspection only.
23. Service Records & Digital Service History
- Where applicable, Five Star Autocentre may update manufacturer Digital Service Records (DSR), online service portals or traditional service books following completion of qualifying servicing work.
- Customers are responsible for advising us if they require a service book to be stamped or an electronic service record to be updated.
- Whilst every reasonable effort will be made to update service records promptly, Five Star Autocentre cannot accept responsibility for delays or failures caused by manufacturer systems, online portals or other third-party systems outside our reasonable control.
- Customers remain responsible for retaining invoices and service documentation as evidence of their vehicle’s maintenance history.
24. Safety-Critical Repairs
- Where Five Star Autocentre identifies defects that, in our professional opinion, affect the safety or roadworthiness of a vehicle, we will advise the customer accordingly.
- If the customer chooses not to authorise recommended safety-related repairs, Five Star Autocentre may record those recommendations on invoices, vehicle health checks, MOT documentation or other service records.
- The customer accepts responsibility for any decision to decline recommended safety-related repairs.
- Five Star Autocentre shall not be responsible for any deterioration, consequential damage, breakdown or safety issue arising directly or indirectly from repairs or maintenance that have been recommended but declined by the customer.
25. Communication & Customer Contact
- Customers are responsible for ensuring that the contact details provided to Five Star Autocentre remain accurate and up to date.
- Where we have attempted to contact a customer using the telephone number, email address or other contact details provided, any voicemail, email, SMS or other communication sent shall be deemed to constitute reasonable notification for the purposes of these Terms & Conditions.
- Five Star Autocentre cannot accept responsibility for delays arising where customers fail to respond to requests for authorisation, collection or additional information.
26. Evidence & Documentation
- To assist with quality assurance, warranty claims, complaint investigations and dispute resolution, Five Star Autocentre may retain documentation relating to work carried out, including but not limited to:
- vehicle health checks;
- technician inspection sheets;
- diagnostic reports;
- digital scan reports;
- estimates and quotations;
- invoices;
- photographs;
- video recordings;
- telephone recordings;
- email correspondence;
- SMS and WhatsApp communications;
- manufacturer service history records;
- workshop job cards.
- These records may be relied upon by Five Star Autocentre as evidence of work undertaken, customer authorisations, recommendations made and communications exchanged.
27. Customer Property Left in Vehicles
- Customers are responsible for removing all valuables, cash, mobile phones, laptops, tools, documents and other personal belongings from their vehicle before leaving it with Five Star Autocentre.
- Whilst every reasonable care will be taken, Five Star Autocentre cannot accept responsibility for the loss of or damage to personal belongings left inside a vehicle unless such loss or damage results from our negligence or where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
- Customers should also remove any items that may obstruct repairs or create a health and safety risk.
28. Vehicle Security Systems
- Customers must advise Five Star Autocentre of any security systems, tracking devices, immobilisers, aftermarket alarms or other equipment that may affect diagnosis or repairs.
- Five Star Autocentre cannot accept responsibility for delays arising where such systems prevent normal diagnosis or repair and their presence has not been disclosed.
29. Collection by Third Parties
- Where a customer authorises another person to collect a vehicle on their behalf, Five Star Autocentre is entitled to rely upon that person’s apparent authority to collect the vehicle, make payment and receive documentation relating to the repair unless we have been notified otherwise in writing before collection.
- Delivery of the vehicle to a person nominated by the customer shall constitute delivery to the customer.
30. Payment, Vehicle Retention and Uncollected Vehicles
- Payment is due in full on completion of the agreed work and before the vehicle is released, unless alternative payment arrangements have been agreed by us in writing.
- Five Star Autocentre accepts payment by the methods advertised at the time of collection.
- We reserve the right to retain possession of a vehicle until all sums properly due to us in respect of authorised repairs, servicing, diagnostic work, parts or other services relating to that vehicle have been paid in full.
- Where payment remains outstanding, the vehicle may remain at our premises until the outstanding balance has been settled. Release of the vehicle may be refused while sums properly due remain unpaid.
- Once a customer has been notified that their vehicle is ready for collection, the vehicle should be collected promptly. If the vehicle is not collected, or payment remains outstanding, a storage charge of £30 per day may be applied until the vehicle is collected and all sums due have been paid.
- Storage charges will normally begin from the day following notification that the vehicle is ready for collection, unless we have agreed otherwise with the customer.
- If a vehicle remains unpaid for or uncollected for a prolonged period, we reserve the right, after giving appropriate notice and subject to applicable law, to take reasonable steps to recover outstanding sums and deal with the vehicle as permitted by law.
- Any costs reasonably incurred in recovering overdue accounts, including debt recovery fees, legal costs (where recoverable) and court fees, may be added to the outstanding balance.
31. Abandoned Vehicles & Unpaid Accounts
- Where a vehicle remains uncollected, payment remains outstanding or we are unable to contact the registered keeper despite making reasonable attempts, Five Star Autocentre reserves the right to recover all outstanding sums owed.
- This may include:
- storage charges;
- debt recovery costs;
- legal proceedings;
- court fees;
- enforcement costs where recoverable;
- exercising any legal lien or other rights available under the laws of England and Wales.
- Where permitted by law, abandoned vehicles may ultimately be sold or otherwise disposed of following the appropriate legal process. Any proceeds shall be applied towards outstanding charges before any remaining balance is dealt with in accordance with the applicable law.
32. Complaints & Right to Rectify
- If you are dissatisfied with any work carried out by Five Star Autocentre, please notify us as soon as reasonably practicable.
- We ask that you provide us with a reasonable opportunity to inspect the vehicle and, where appropriate, rectify any proven workmanship issue before instructing another repairer.
- Where another repairer dismantles, alters or repairs the affected area before Five Star Autocentre has been given the opportunity to inspect the vehicle, this may affect any goodwill, warranty or claim relating to our work.
- Nothing in this clause affects your statutory rights.
33. Data Protection & Privacy
- Five Star Autocentre processes personal information in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and any other applicable data protection legislation.
- Personal information is collected and processed for purposes including:
- booking appointments;
- carrying out repairs and servicing;
- processing payments;
- warranty administration;
- legal and regulatory compliance;
- customer communications;
- maintaining service history records.
- Further information regarding how we collect, use and retain personal information is available in our Privacy Policy, which is available on request and via our website.
34. Force Majeure
- Five Star Autocentre shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform its obligations where such delay or failure arises from circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
- Such circumstances include, but are not limited to:
- severe weather;
- flooding;
- fire;
- pandemic or epidemic;
- industrial action;
- power failures;
- failures of suppliers or manufacturers;
- shortages of parts or materials;
- acts of government;
- cyber incidents;
- any other event beyond our reasonable control.
35. Limitation of Liability
- Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation would be unlawful.
- Subject to applicable law, Five Star Autocentre shall not be liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from delays, breakdowns, third-party failures or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
- Nothing within these Terms shall exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation or any liability which cannot legally be excluded.
36. Severability
If any provision within these Terms & Conditions is found by a court or other competent authority to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
37. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
38. Amendments
Five Star Autocentre reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions from time to time.
The latest version will always be available on our website and in our reception area.
The version in force at the time work is authorised shall apply to that transaction unless otherwise agreed.
